Improv On The Web

J.S.

Beanbender's home page

Dan Plonsey gets the credit for this superb Web page, which is a virtually complete resource for improvised music in the Bay Area and beyond. In addition to a calendar of events, a list of previous shows (including reviews and off-the-cuff comments), and information on other Bay Area venues, the Beanbender's page includes extensive links to other Web pages that focus on improvised music.

European improv home page

This Web page is the granddaddy of them all. Compiled by Peter Stubley in England, the page has bios, information on upcoming tour dates, and highly detailed discographies for about 100 European improvisers, as well as downloadable sound and video clips of many artists. The page also contains data on virtually every record company that's been involved in improvised music.

WNUR jazz home page

Maintained by the radio station at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., this page has information on American jazz and improv musicians. You'll also find links to Internet retailers who specialize in hard-to-find releases.
